We taste poached rhubarb, custard tart and dark caramel which makes a delicious and robust filter coffee. Enjoy black. Best brewed using a pour-over method such as a V60 or Chemex.
Kenyan coffees are known for their vibrant fruit flavours and sparkling acidity, making them a favourite for many speciality coffee lovers. This delicious filter coffee, from Meru County in the former Eastern Province of Kenya packs a fruity punch which we love!
Meru has two rainy seasons and benefits from the volcanic soils of Mount Kenya – these two factors make perfect coffee growing conditions.
The Ruiri Cooperative consists of three factories which take coffee from local farmers, giving small farms access to commercial markets and a more stable source of income. This particular lot is from the Tigiji factory.
Coffee cherries are selectively picked then delivered to the wet mill that day. The ripest red cherries are then selected at the mill and pulped to remove their skins. The cherries are washed in clean water to remove the fruit of the cherry, then sun-dried on raised beds. This process is known as the washed method and results in bright, clean-tasting coffees which highlight the delicate fruit notes that Kenyan coffees are best known for.
