Last Wednesday we were lucky enough to be invited to the Movember 2015 Launch Party. Hidden between buildings off Bermondsey St, the courtyard was lit with coloured bulbs and the party was in full swing. Sweatband dancers grooved in the pink light beneath silhouettes of ballooned moustaches. There was a fancy dress photo booth and the guys could even have their chin’s prepped for the month ahead. Good tunes, great people and excellent cocktails. There were even mini-burgers served on silver platers.
It was inspirational to see how much Movember have already done in support of men’s health. Since establishing in 2003, the organisation has raised over £402 million and funds more than 1000 programmes that focus on prostate and testicular cancer, physical inactivity and poor mental health.
The founders’ talk about the importance of tackling men’s mental health was eye-opening. Last year I in 8 men in the UK were diagnosed with mental health issues. The Movember foundation acknowledges ‘the uncomfortable truth that some stereotypical forms of masculinity are killing men’. Sadly a lot of guys still don’t feel comfortable enough to talk to anyone.
With our collective support we can help raise awareness and funds to encourage guys to start connecting, even if it’s just at the pub or over a cup of coffee. This year the Coffee Collective has been set up to unite coffee shops all over the UK under the mighty Mo. Along side Nude Coffee Roasters, we have been distributing Movember coffee cups to spread the word and of course we re-released the unforgettable favourite, the Strongman. If you love coffee and conversation.
With this years additional Move for Movember campaign, the Extract team are getting involved. As well as the guys growing an interesting assortment of facial hair, the whole crew are going to do a Bristol MoRun between three of the cafés we supply. So keep an eye out for our sweaty faces on the 27th November!
