“No other coffee of ours has a stronger purpose than this one.”

Duncan Kendall, Managing Director, Extract Coffee Roasters

For the past 8 years, we’ve launched a winter espresso celebrating strength and the power of community. The story may have evolved since our first Strong coffee in 2012, but the purpose remains the same:

Together, by supporting one another, we are stronger.

WHAT BRINGS STRENGTH TO OUR COMMUNITY?

Whilst Extract’s community support happens year-round, launching this coffee at the end of the year gives us a moment to pause and celebrate the community projects we have been a part of.

It is a moment to shine a spotlight on the work of the organisations we support through our Grounds Up Charity collective – sharing their stories of the crucial work they do.

More than ever, this year has shown us that by working together, supporting each other, we are stronger.

It also serves as a reminder to support one another each day. Whether that’s just the smallest gesture of kindness to give each other confidence & comfort in finding that inner strength, it is something we hope this coffee sparks in all of you as you sip your cup of Inner Strength.

Thank you. By drinking this coffee, you are supporting communities in need across the UK. Ex-rough sleepers in London, hospitality professionals in the North, vulnerable groups in the Cotswolds and young people from deprived communities across the South West.

THIS YEAR, £1 PER EVERY BAG SOLD OF INNER STRENGTH COFFEE WILL BE DONATED TO SUPPORTING OUR GROUNDS UP COMMUNITIES:

Empire Fighting Chance, South West

Hotel School, London

The Long Table, Cotswolds

So, Let's Talk, Manchester

Beyond Food, London

THE WOMEN OF COOPADE

The incredible coffee we’ve sourced for Inner Strength this year hails from the Women’s Section of the Coopade cooperative in Kirindera, DR Congo.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) is a politically difficult landscape for coffee growers. Armed groups target young people with limited opportunities and destabilise the region through horrific acts of violence, including sexual violence, against the communities who live there.

The Women’s Section of Coopade helps female coffee farmers control & develop their entire supply chain. The coffee they produce is separated, sold at a premium to boost their incomes and aptly named The Kirindera Women’s Peace Coffee.

These incredible women are using this coffee to make a stand against the ongoing atrocities in their region and create opportunities for young people to rebuild the communities in the Virunga National Park.

Earlier this year, we had a chance to speak to the women of Coopade and listen to their stories first hand. These stories are just a few of the many from the women of Coopade, but we want to be able to share their stories with you over the next few weeks.

LOVE THE BREW

Throughout the month of November, we'll be diving deeper into the coffee story and sharing stories of inner strength from within our community. If you would like to keep up to date, sign up to our weekly newsletter 'Love the Brew' below:

IN THE CUP

Stone-fruit acidity and warming aromatic spices roll into a mouthwatering sweetness, a sure favourite for colder days when we need to tap into our inner strength.

BEST BREW

This coffee is delicious with or without milk. We love its complexity and lingering sweetness as an americano or longer black drink.
