This will be our third year roasting this incredible Ethiopian filter coffee from Abebech Tadese, a female coffee farmer in Gedeb, Ethiopia.
Strict control over exports means Ethiopian coffees are usually only traceable as far as the mill and washing station. Separating Abebech’s coffee as a micro lot gives full traceability back to the grower.
Three years ago, Abebech’s coffee was our first ever fully traceable Ethiopian coffee. We’re stoked to be roasting these beans again and to continue supporting this amazing female coffee farmer.
The coffee grows more than 2000 metres above sea level, in red-brown, fertile soils. Ripe coffee cherries are harvested then taken to the nearby Chelchelie Washing Station for processing.
The coffee cherries are pulped (skins removed) then left to ferment. This allows the sweet flavours in the coffee to develop. The fermented coffee is then washed, soaked and dried on African raised beds.
The resulting coffee has the vibrant acidity and complex sweetness of candied lemons and white grapes. We’ve chosen a lighter roast for this coffee to highlight these delicate flavours. Beautiful when brewed as a filter coffee or drip coffee using a Chemex or a V60.
