The Ultimate Summer Sipper Is Back!
Our signature summer espresso is back to brighten your day! This year’s blend is a citrusy, tropical, naturally processed powerhouse.
Jonny, our Head Roaster, says “I landed on a 3 bean blend for Funka, each coffee bringing something unique to the cup. The Rwanda Ruli builds a sweet syrupy base with loads of texture and red fruit. The Honduras El Matazano brings both bright tropical fruits along with subtle nuttiness and the Colombia Gaitania with its anaerobic process adds some booziness to put the "funk" into Funka.”
How To Enjoy It
Sip this sweet juicy espresso straight up (ideally in the sun), and enjoy a citrus hit of grapefruit and cherry jam sweetness.
Prefer adding milk? Expect the booziness to come through with notes of amaretto and black cherry.
We’re loving it as an affogato, the perfect summer dessert. If you’re feeling snazzy, spike it with some amaretto alongside the espresso for the ultimate dessert.
Behind The Beans
This year, we’ve sourced and blended exceptional lots from three different origins, Colombia, Rwanda and Honduras. Here is the story behind the funk.
Gaitania, Colombia (The Funk Provider)
This coffee brings that classic, wild Funka personality. Full of juicy fruit, boozy complexity and clarity, all that you’d expect from a top tier anaerobic natural.
Gaitania, Tolima, is a region that is famous for nutrient dense volcanic soil. The producers are an indigenous community with deep cultural roots and a history that has shaped Colombia’s social and agricultural landscape for generations.
After picking, the cherries are sealed in low-oxygen tanks and left to ferment for around 50 hours. They’re then dried on raised beds in carefully controlled conditions. This process gives the beans a chance to soak up all those boozy, fruity notes as the cherries ferment.

Ruli, Rwanda (The Sweet & Structured All Rounder)
Lying high in the rugged northwest, is one of Rwanda’s highest washing stations, Ruli, part of the Musasa Dukunde Kawa cooperative.
Supported by the transformational PEARL programme, Rwanda’s coffee production is now one of high quality after its historic emphasis on quantity, and very much a big player within the speciality coffee market. The cooperative allows farmers to pool resources, while providing vital social programmes like school fees and medical insurance for farming families.
This meticulous natural process coffee brings sweet syrupyness and red fruits to the blend.

El Matazano, Honduras (The Smooth Operator)
This exceptional coffee has been sourced from Finca El Matazano, in the beautiful highlands of Honduras. The farm is a paradise of biodiversity, with its wide variety of timber and fruit trees that offer shade to the coffee plants, its quality water sources, the beautiful environment and the impeccable care of the team.
Elvin, who owns the farm, is deeply committed to speciality coffee after inheriting his knowledge and skills from his father, a pioneer in the area.
