Tell me more

The Danche washing station, established in 2019, is a testament to the dedication of Nigusse Debela, a key figure in Ethiopia’s coffee industry. Located in the Gedeb woreda of the newly formed South Ethiopia Regional State, this 4-hectare facility processes 15 containers of coffee annually, working with smallholder farmers from surrounding kebeles (neighbourhoods).

Nigusse manages five washing stations across the region, with Danche being the pinnacle of precision processing. Equipped with 250 drying beds, the station transforms carefully harvested red cherries into high quality exceptional coffee through a precise washed processing method.

Coffee cherries are immersed in water, ripe cherries sink to the bottom, and unripe ones float and are discarded. The ripe cherries are then de-pulped to remover the outer skin and then fermented in water for up to 72 hours to break down the remaining mucilage. The ceramic tanks used enhance the clarity of the processed coffee nd speed up fermentation.

The commitment of Nigusse Debela and the local community is evident in every cup of coffee, the quality is exceptional. Expect flavours of kiwi, lavender and raspberry jam in this delicious filter coffee.
