Extract Hot Chocolate Recipes
As temperatures drop, it's time to cosy up with steaming mugs of delicious hot cocoa. In this blog we share our favourite hot chocolate and mocha recipes using Extract Dark Hot Chocolate and Extract White Hot Chocolate.
Extract Dark Hot Chocolate is Vegan certified and made using Fairtrade sugar. Then there's our White Hot Chocolate which is creamy and has all the nostalgic flavours of milky bar buttons.
Dark Hot Chocolate
INGREDIENTS
- 1 scoop of Extract Dark Hot Chocolate powder (28g)
- 300ml milk
METHOD
- Mix 1 scoop of Extract Dark Hot Chocolate powder and a splash of hot milk into a paste in the bottom of your cup.
- Using the milk steamer on your espresso machine or a domestic milk steamer, steam your milk. This could be dairy milk or an alternative plant-based milk like oat, coconut or soy. If steaming alternative milks, make sure you use a barista version which will steam more consistently without splitting.
- If you don't have a milk steamer and are making this at home, warm the milk on the hob or in the microwave. You don't want it to come up to boil so keep a close eye on it - we're going for warm.
- Finally, top your hot chocolate paste with your steamed milk, then dust with chocolate and marshmallows as you choose.
Dark Chocolate Mocha
A mocha is a mix of espresso and hot chocolate, topped with steamed milk. It's rich, indulgent and all-round delicious.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 scoop of Extract Dark Hot Chocolate powder (28g)
- 1 double shot of Extract Coffee Roasters Espresso (36ml)
- 300ml milk
METHOD
- Mix 1 scoop of Extract Dark Hot Chocolate powder and a double shot of your favourite Extract Coffee Roasters espresso at the bottom of your cup. We love the chocolatey flavours of Extract Organic Espresso for this one.
- If you don't have an espresso machine at home, use an Aeropress, or a Mocha Pot to make a short shot of coffee.
- Then follow the same milk heating and steaming instructions as for the Hot Chocolate recipe, above using your preferred milk or alt-milk.
White Hot Chocolate
INGREDIENTS
- 1 scoop of Extract White Hot Chocolate powder (28g)
- 300ml milk
METHOD
- Mix 1 scoop of white hot chocolate powder and a splash of hot milk into a paste.
- Top with 300ml steamed milk as per the instructions above, and serve with a dusting of cocoa.
White Chocolate Mocha
INGREDIENTS
- 1 scoop of Extract White Hot Chocolate powder (28g)
- 1 double shot of Extract Coffee Roasters Espresso (36ml)
- 300ml milk
METHOD
- In a cup, pour a double shot of espresso and add 1 scoop of white hot chocolate and mix into a paste.
- Finally, add steamed latte milk following the instructions in the recipes above, and serve.
