Our Foundation Barista Training session is the perfect starting point for baristas new to the world of speciality coffee. For more experienced baristas, check out our free Intermediate Barista Training.

The first step in any Extract Coffee Roasters barista training is our Foundation Barista training which trains attendees to Junior Barista level.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

The Foundation Barista Training is for anyone new to making coffee, or with not much experience of working with speciality coffee. Perfect for Junior Baristas, Barista Assistants or other front of house staff making coffee for customers.By the end of this session, attendees will be able to make coffee to a reasonable standard, with supervision.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

This session is free to employees of Extract Coffee Roasters trade customers.

WHERE DOES IT TAKE PLACE?

This barista training session can be held at our roastery in Bristol, at our training space London, or on-site at your business.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Extract Coffee Roasters Foundation Barista Training is a 1.5 hour session on-site (three people max), or two hours at our roastery with a tour.


WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN FOUNDATION BARISTA TRAINING?

Part 1

  • Coffee origins for Arabica coffee - e.g. Peru, Colombia, Kenya etc.
  • Functions of the espresso machine and grinder parts
  • Using scales to weigh coffee
  • Milk textures for different drinks
  • Basic health and safety
  • Why we need to clean
  • Names of espresso-based drinks

Part 2

  • How to correctly dose, distribute and tamp coffee for espresso
  • Steam milk for cappuccinos and lattes, to order
  • Take ownership of station cleanliness
  • How to complete end-of-day cleaning
  • Chemical backflushing - what to do and how
  • Safe working practice

FOLLOW-UP SESSIONS

Our Foundation training courses are followed up with Barista Power-Up sessions. These are 20-minute on-the-job training sessions delivered in the cafe on a specific area of service.

More experienced baristas can also book on to our free Intermediate Barista Training sessions.
