An Introduction to Coffee

Following the success of last year’s Barista Workshops, we are launching the return of a monthly class run by Extract’s roasters and baristas. The course this year will take an interactive approach to the coffee brewing process. So whether you never did quite know what to do with that Aeropress, or the illusive latte art is still out of reach.. a day at our roastery and training centre will enable you to explore in more depth and detail the art of brewing.

Beginning where coffee begins, our In Tamp We Trust program will take you on a crop to cup journey. From learning about how coffee is sourced, and the farms that we work with through to the roasting process will create a basis of understanding that will become the foundation of the day’s hands-on learning experience.

A tour of Extract and a roasting demonstration will be followed by a sampling and cupping of a range of coffees that will inform of how and why we roast certain ways, blend certain coffees, and ultimately how we brew the final product.

Our brew bar will give you the opportunity to hone your brewing skills using our tried and tested recipes, whether you’re looking to perfect the classic cafetiere method, or see a siphon in action, or try your hand at something completely new. Finally, will be an espresso focused tutorial that will get you stuck in with dialling in, pulling perfect shots, and making the most of milk blended drinks.

The day will close with an informal Q & A, and of course some coffee to take home and start practicing with!
