How to clean your espresso machine


Clean machines last longer, are more reliable and make tastier coffee. In this quick power-up training we explain how to clean commercial espresso machines made by Sanremo and La Marzocco. Below you'll find some short videos, followed by step by step guides explaining how to clean your machine during service and at the end of the day.

CLEANING

A clean machine makes tastier espresso. Here's a quick refresh on how to clean our machine at the end of service.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE
CLEANING YOUR MACHINE DURING SERVICE


  1. SCRUB THE SHOWER SCREEN

    Scrub the shower screen with a brush while running the water.

  2. SWAP IN A BLANK DISC & RINSE x3

    Remove the basket from the portafilter and swap in a “blank” disc (the metal disk with no holes in it).

    Insert the portafilter, press the freeflow water button and leave to run for 10 seconds.

    Turn off the water, empty out the portafilter & repeat twice.

  3. CLEAN AND REPLACE

    Remove the blank disc from the portafilter. Clean the basket & portafilter with a cleaning brush and clean microfibre cloth.

    Reassemble the portafilter and the basket, then return the portafilter to the machine to heat up before using again.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE
CLEANING YOUR ESPRESSO MACHINE AT THE END OF SERVICE


  1. FOLLOW IN-SERVICE CLEANING

    Start by following steps 1-3 above for cleaning during service.

  2. 1 scoop espresso machine cleaner

    Add 1 scoop of espresso machine cleaner to a blank disc in a portafilter. Insert the portafilter into the group head.

  3. RINSE.1 10 SECONDS x4

    Press the freeflow button and allow water to run for 10 seconds then turn off.

    Repeat 4 times, or activate the cleaning cycle if your machine has one.

  4. SCRUB

    Remove the portafilter & scrub the grouphead with the brush.

    Rinse the portafilter then reinsert the portafilter into the grouphead.

  5. RINSE.2 10 SECONDS x4

    Press the freeflow button & allow to run for 10 seconds then turn off.

    Repeat 4 times or activate the cleaning cycle if you have one

  6. SOAK PORTAFILTERS

    Add 2 scoops of espresso machine cleaner to boiling water.

    Submerge only the metal parts of the portafilters and baskets, soak for 5 mins then remove, scrub and rinse clean.

    Return the clean portafilters to the groupheads ready to be used in the morning.

  7. CLEAN LIKE A PRO

    Clean machines make tastier coffee

    Follow ‘cleaning through service’ several times throughout the day.

    Never use more than one scoop of espresso machine cleaner in your groupheads.
