Last Thursday, Extract teamed up with New Dawn Traders to transform the roastery in to a tropical den. Multi-coloured African fabrics hung low from the warehouse walls and paper palm trees were assembled to help create a temporary illusion that we were really partying in the tropics. Outside, bikes lined the icy road and a fire welcomed the brave ravers as dawn slowly creeped across the sky.
Dark winter coats and hats were abandoned to reveal sequinned leggings, curly blue wigs and feathers. The dance-floor was filled with colour and glitter as everyone grooved to African beats. One of our favourite movers, Nigel, got everyone sweating in a series of funky dance routines. The morning was complete with drumming from the Ata bei Women, taking us back to basics with powerful rhythms from Africa.
We served our finest Kenyan espresso alongside cinnamon buns fresh out of the new ovens at theOld Market Assembly. There were healthy hemp shakes from local chef Laurie French, and the delicious hot chocolate from New Dawn Traders. This was the second Morning Coffee Rave we’ve hosted with them. We love supporting a company who’s mission reminds us all to joyfully reconsider how and what we consume and explore the positive alternatives. For more information about what they do, click here.
It’s always great to have an excuse to use the roastery to bring people together, from local businesses to commuters. Without all you amazing morning ravers, so committed to getting down in the dark that you dragged yourselves out of bed in subzero temperatures, we wouldn’t have an excuse to put on such a great event. So thank you, Bristol! We can’t wait to have you all back soon for the next one!
